Camels, desert, sand…and happy about it!

We left from our AinBnB in the Palmeraies Garden. We were picked-up at our place by Mohamed who was extremely nice!
True, the drive is long but oh how much rewarding! We stopped at various places for pictures and coffee adn mohamed always made sure we had enough water.
The 20-minute camel ride was more than enough for me. Our camel guide was very nice also.
The installation with the tents are prestine. Nice and clean showers and bathrooms. They do provide the towels.
The diner was a tagine with all of Morroco tastes.
The beds in the non-air-conditionned tent were amazingly confortable. Sleeping outside was better temperature wise though.
    I recommend it to anyone.

Amazing experience and memories with a long drive

We had such a great experience during this trip and it absolutely lived up to the expectations set by the listing. Youness was a great driver who made the long drives as short as possible without ever feeling unsafe. We were picked up directly from our Riad in the Medina which Youness arranged with the staff from the Riad so all went smoothly. He is directly contactable via WhatsApp which was great.

We set off from Marrakech at 8am and drove over the high atlas mountains with a couple of stops. It took about 2 hours to get from our Riad to the highest point of the mountains and we stopped at a cafe for toilets/snacks/taking pictures. Our next stop from there was Ourzazate which was a further 2h30min. This is where a lot of movies have been filmed but this time we didn’t stop except to get refreshments. From here we went to Zagora (2h30min again) where we had lunch at a beautiful little spot. It was around 3pm when we had lunch here. The food was very good and Younas checked what food we would like to have before so they could prepare it. We were here for about 90 mins so it felt like a good rest after a long drive. This is the last big city before the desert and it’s about another 1h30 to the camp.

The last 15 minutes of this leg is off road in the desert which was exciting and the car was well equipped to handle it comfortably. We stopped at a random point near the dunes and were met by a Berber man and some camels. We were able to ride the camels through the dunes during sunset which was absolutely stunningly beautiful and a real highlight of the trip. The dunes were amazing and we were able to stop and climb to the top of the highest one for sunset. It was a little windy which meant sand was blowing everywhere so sunglasses and headscarves are advisable! From here we got a camel ride to camp for the night.

We were welcomed with mint tea and some pastries which was nice and then later had a traditional chicken tagine dinner which was very good quality. After dinner we sat round the fire pit and had some traditional music played for us then set off some lanterns. At one point they turned off all the lights in camp so we could see the night sky fully which was magical.

We stayed in the standard tent which had 4 single beds, and while they weren’t the most comfortable it was fine for one night. The toilet block was pretty good with private western style toilets and sinks and showers. All round the amenities were good for a one night stay in the desert and I’m sure the luxury options were even better.

The next morning we got up and climbed the dunes for sunrise. This isn’t guided and was optional but very much worth it. We then had a nice breakfast of pastries, eggs, bread and juice/tea/coffee. There was even some “pizza Berber”! After this we were given some snowboards and told we could go and try sandboarding in the dunes which was quite funny.
We had a lot of flexibility as to when we wanted to leave and Younas was very accommodating. We left around 9am and headed back the road we came down the previous day. We had a short stop in Zagora before making our way to Ourzazate. Here we had the options to go to one of the studio tours which we decided against, in favour of more time at other stops. We did have a quick look around though and seemed interesting enough. Next we went to Ait Benhaddou – this was a very interesting stop where we walked through the town and climbed to the very top for great panoramic views. There are lots of places to shop and buy souvenirs here but they aren’t too pushy. We spent an hour or more here and then went on to Telouet. We didn’t stop long here as we wanted to see the mountains in daylight but it looked beautiful also. From here it was the same journey as the previous day but in reverse. It was a lot of driving but we saw so much across the two days.

Younas was very accommodating and allowed plenty of stops for pictures and toilet breaks. The food was all very good and included in the price we paid which was nice as we didn’t have to think about it.
Overall I would really recommend this tour as it is very good value for what you get to see and the places you get to go. I would emphasise that it is a very long drive (7h30m if non stop from Marrakech), but I think it’s worth it for the dunes alone, nevermind the other great stops. If you have more time then a 3 day/2 night option would be a more leisurely way to do this trip which Younas also does but we just didn’t have the time.

    Excellent Trip!

The trip has been amazing!!. In the first day we traveled for about 7/8 hours in a 4×4 (highly recommended, and we stopped in breath-taking places to take pictures and to visit the sites of Ait ben haddou. We reached the camels at 6 pm and the tents a hour later. The night in the desert has been great! The Berber staff at the camp is very kind, dinner was delicious and we played music around the fire all night long in a very pleasant atmosphere. The sky full of stars is something unique. An excellent tour! If you’re looking for a trip that shows you the beauty of Morocco, this ones for you.

As the first decent holiday without the children, we wanted to get the best from our week’s stay in Marrakech. Having reviewed tours it seemed Art de Cuivre offered a good itinerary and package. We opted for a 2 day desert tour from Marrakech to the Zagora Dunes. We pre booked from the UK,
The tour was excellent. Our guide Omar was brilliant, very kind, attentive and knowledgable. Although we kept to the itinerary we were able to influence the pace and spend the time we wanted exploring the most interesting places e.g. Ait Ben Haddou. Everything was very relaxed and comfortable.
The dunes and overnight in the desert was a simply fantastic experience, I think we had a lovely group of young guides who were pretty competent cooks and accomplished musicians around the camp fire.

Fantastic way to see Sahara and Atlas Mountains!

If you have only 2 days outside of Marrakash and absolutely want to see the Sahara and ride a camel and see the stunning Atlas Mountains this is an absolute MUST! Art de Cuivre handled everything from the timely pick up in busy Marrakesh to a wonderful drive up and over the Atlas Mountains to Zagora where your adventure truly begins. Getting there is half the fun as there are many options to stop along the way to discover things and you are in control of when and where as this tour is private. The camel ride is hilarious and not too long and not too short. Depending on the time of year, the weather can be hot or a little chilly so be prepared for both. The guides really do a great job with not only the food but the ambiance and fun. Highly recommend even for a family. We wouldn’t trade a thing. Great way to maximize a few days outside of Marrakash. Thank you Art de Cuivre for your service!
